I had the pleasure to coach Zach Stanton over consecutive seasons in the Saint Louis FC Academy program, giving me a prolonged opportunity to get to know him and his playing abilities. Though Zach has an 06 birthyear, his advanced play warranted his frequent inclusion in my 05 team. Zach was used at both the LCB position and in the LB position before settling in to play primarily in the LCB position. Zach's maturity was a key factor in giving me the confidence to play him in a position with so much respon­sibili­ty­, his work ethic, compet­itiven­ess­, high self-expectancy, and willingness to take respon­sibili­ty­ made him universally accepted and respected in the team. His combination of size, strength, and overall athleticism give him the ability to step up to press the ball, defend 1v1, and cover the space behind the last line. His passing accuracy and range and willingness to "step-in" with the ball at his feet make him an ideal center back. Zach is the “complete package” as a center back.
